Easy Win

navy football begins year with victoryNavy took it to the Delaware Blue Hens last Saturday from the opening kickoff and never let up on the gas pedal.

New starting quarterback, Senior Kriss Proctor, accounted for four of the team’s touchdowns as he ran for three and passed for another. The first of his touchdowns came on just the third play from scrimmage as he bolted his way towards a 75-yard touchdown run.

Proctor finished the scoring for the Midshipman with his first career TD pass to Aaron Santiago to make the score 40-10. The 13-yard pass gave Proctor, 46 yards of passing on the day – which is not bad for Navy’s run-heavy offense.

Up Next

Granted, Delaware is not really known for their football team – or any of their sports for that matter – but the win should give both Proctor and the rest of the team a good confidence boost going into their tilt against Western Kentucky of the Sun Belt Conference on the road this weekend.

The game will start at 7 pm ET, and will be aired on ESPN3. The Hilltoppers are coming off of a loss to their in-state rivals, Kentucky in which their offense struggled, but their defense only allowed 14 points.

Western Kentucky is led by an extremely talented running back in Bobby Rainey, who ran for 105 yards against Kentucky last week. The Midshipmen will have their hands full with Rainey. That said, Hilltopper quarterback, Kawaun Jakes, looked very shaky against the Wildcats. Jakes completed only 9 passes to his team, while throwing 4 picks in the process as he constantly missed his targets throughout the game.

Looking Ahead

After the Western Kentucky game, Navy will face a very tough test as they take on #12 South Carolina on the road in a nationally televised game on ESPN2.
After what will be most likely a loss to the Gamecocks, Navy will play their annual game against Air Force on the first weekend of October.
